Crypto Profit Calculator

Calculate the profit, loss, ROI, and net return on a cryptocurrency trade after buy and sell fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it include trading fees?

Yes. Enter your buy fee % and sell fee % and the calculator adds the buy fee to your cost and subtracts the sell fee from your proceeds, so the profit and ROI reflect what you actually keep.

What is ROI?

ROI (return on investment) is your profit divided by your total cost, shown as a percentage. A positive ROI means a gain; a negative ROI means a loss after fees.

Does it work for any coin?

Yes. Just enter your buy price, sell price, and quantity for any cryptocurrency — Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any altcoin. The math is the same regardless of the coin.

Understanding the Crypto Profit Calculator

The Crypto Profit Calculator works out exactly how much you gained or lost on a cryptocurrency trade after exchange fees. Enter your buy price per coin, your sell price per coin, the quantity of coins, and your buy and sell fee percentages. It instantly shows your profit or loss in your chosen currency, your return on investment (ROI) as a percentage, the total amount you invested, the total you got back, and the total fees you paid. It works for Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any altcoin, and everything runs in your browser — your numbers never leave your device.

How it works

Start with your cost basis: multiply the quantity of coins by the buy price to get the gross purchase amount, then add your buy fee percentage to find the total invested. Next, multiply the quantity by the sell price for the gross sale amount, and subtract your sell fee percentage to find the net proceeds — the total you actually received. Profit (or loss) is simply the net proceeds minus the total invested. ROI expresses that profit as a percentage of what you put in. Total fees add the buy-side and sell-side fee amounts together. Profit shows green when positive and red when negative, so gains and losses are easy to read at a glance.

Total invested = quantity × buy price × (1 + buy fee% / 100) Total returned = quantity × sell price × (1 − sell fee% / 100) Profit = total returned − total invested ROI % = (profit ÷ total invested) × 100 Total fees = (quantity × buy price × buy fee% / 100) + (quantity × sell price × sell fee% / 100)

Worked example

Suppose you buy 0.5 BTC at 30,000 per coin with a 0.1% buy fee, then sell at 45,000 per coin with a 0.1% sell fee. Your total invested is 0.5 × 30,000 × 1.001 = 15,015. Your total returned is 0.5 × 45,000 × 0.999 = 22,477.50. Profit is 22,477.50 − 15,015 = 7,462.50, an ROI of about +49.7%. Total fees paid come to roughly 37.50 across both legs of the trade.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Use the exact maker or taker fee from your exchange — many charge between 0.1% and 0.5% per trade, and it adds up on large positions.
  • Remember fees apply to both the buy and the sell, so a round trip costs you roughly double the per-trade rate.
  • This tool excludes capital gains tax, which depends on your country and holding period — budget for it separately.
  • Quantity accepts fractional coins, so you can model 0.05 BTC or 12.5 ETH precisely.
  • Switch the site currency to see results in your local currency without changing your input numbers.
  • Compare ROI rather than raw profit when sizing different trades — a small position with high ROI can beat a large one with thin margins.
